Trustworthy and quality-assured quantitative magnetic resonance imaging

To embed self-evaluations of pixel-wise uncertainty into quantitative MRI reconstructions

Start date: June 1st, 2025
Duration: 36 months
Coordinator: Dr. Luca Zilberti, INRiM

In his Metamorphoses (also known as The Golden Ass) the Latin writer Apuleius provides an allegory of a person’s path towards maturity. In this project, we develop the metrological framework required to bring quantitative MRI towards maturity. Specifically, we aim to embed self-evaluations of pixel-wise uncertainty into quantitative MRI reconstructions.

Unleash the full potential of qMRI

Metrological framework to enable pixel-wise uncertainty

Short-term intra-subject measurements to validate the metrological framework

Publication of suitable benchmarks to foster objective comparison of different qMRI algorithms

Inter-subject, inter-protocol and longitudinal intra-subject observations to identify target uncertainties and optimise qMRI methods

"Metrology is the scientific domain in which imaging biomarkers must be validated, as with other measurement devices"
